Hand made in the U.S.A. since 1988.
It's amazing how time flies. We started TurboCat because we had discovered night riding and thought it was a blast. Still do! We thank our many thousands of loyal customers who appreciate our "keep it simple" approach to product design. Ride on, have fun, and stay in touch! Which light is for you? We offer a huge number of choices of lights and batteries, however 95% of our sales are from the following setups. For off-road riding in most parts of the country, a DualSource setup (helmet & bar system) is best. If that breaks the budget, you can start with one light or the other. For beginners we usually recommend a 15 watt flood bar system, but if your friends or lots of locals use only helmet lights, go that way. For road riding or commuting under approximately 22 mph, a single 15 watt flood works very well. If you spend a lot of time over 20 mph, a 15 watt spot is preferable. A no-compromise setup would be a dual-beam on the bars plus a helmet light. This combination costs about $500. Not cheap, but a deal compared to HID and high end LED systems that give you only a helmet OR a bar light for the same price - not both. Unless weight is super critical, we always recommend ni-cad batteries. Give us a call and we'll dial in your ideal system with you. No HIDs or LEDs here! See the technology and FAQ sections for our comments. See the following section. Lumens bad, LUX good! Lumens are measured by putting a bulb in the center of a one foot sphere and capturing the light output from all directions. Lumens have nothing to do with beam patterns or how far ahead a light shines. Click here HERE to see how some other lights compare to TurboCat. These comparisons are in LUX, which is a standard measurement of light shining ON a object. In this real world test, the light meter is placed at a given distance from the light source - in this case 20 feet. StrapLock tight? When installed properly, they will stay tight during rough and wet off-road rides. Here's the trick: Stand in front of the bike and aim the beam where you want it. Push down HARD on the light, then pull VERY HARD on the strap and close the velcro. Don't let up on the pressure until the velcro is closed. If you need to re-aim the light, undo the velcro and start over. Keep the rubber pad clean with rubbing alcohol. Or add our elegant aluminum QR for $32. No helmet? Our helmet lights have always been used for a range of outdoor nighttime activities that don't require helmets, such as x-country skiing, etc. The TrailGuide HeadBand is a simple $20 accessory that adjusts to fit anyone and holds the light firmly in place on your forehead.
Can't fit a water bottle battery on your bike? No problem, just go to twofish.biz and look for THE BLACK STRAP. It's a great product that will usually allow you to fit a waterbottle battery on your bike. |
Free checkups! Send in a battery or a whole system for a free checkup. We'll test the runtime and/or diagnose any problems. All you pay for is shipping. And for a limited time, you can take 20% off the price of replacement batteries, bulbs, etc. (We also repair and supply batteries for non-TurboCat systems, so if your manufacturer has deserted you, just let us know.) Also, rest assured that your repair won't sit here for weeks on end! High definiton photos available here. CLICK HERE for assorted images. These may take a while to download, so please be patient. Then you can ZOOM IN for a better view. (If you'd like to see something else closer, just let us know.)
The ultimate quick-release. Our very trick CNC machined QRs are now available for both oversize (31.8 mm) and standard bars. These QRs can often be adapted to work on other brands. Beautiful and easier to use than the standard StrapLock mount, these sell for $32 or add $20 to the price of any system. Ni-Cad or Ni-MH? Ni-mhs are smaller, weigh less and are more environmentally friendly than ni-cads. However, years of experience have shown us that ni-cads are the best batteries to use for bike lights. They deliver 40% more recharge cycles that ni-mhs and – most importantly – they hold their voltage better as the battery ages. This means that a 2 or 3 year old ni-cad will provide brighter light than a ni-mh of similar age. This is particularly noticeable at higher wattages. (We still supply ni-mhs where the question of weight overrides all other factors.) Innovations Bike lights have changed dramatically in the many years weve been making them. During those years, weve introduced a number of key design ideas. A number of light manufacturers have adopted our innovations. Others should! DualSource systems. A wide angle light on the bars and a spot on the helmet, two batteries and two chargers. The best of both worlds -- especially for technical single-track and 24-Hour racing. Three year battery warranty. Full coverage in the first year; prorated in the second and third. Some companies offer 6 months; some less. One year bulb warranty. Most of our competitors don't offer a warranty on their bulbs. Adjustable dual-beams. All our dual-beam systems allow individual aim of low and high beams. Low in close, high further out, precisely where you want them. Easily accessible thumb switch for high beam. Easy on easy off.. The switch is right by your thumb Intuitive switching. You go from "low" to "high" and right back to "low." You don't have to scroll through all modes when all you want is your high beam and you'll never end up in an unwanted flashing mode. Upgradeable single beams and modular systems. Our single beam lights have always been easily upgraded to dual beams. There is no cost penalty if the high beam is added later. Recycle It! We recycle and use recycled materials wherever possible, and we pack with a special filler made from recycled polystyrene. Please reuse or recycle it instead of throwing it away. Battery recycling is a critical. To find a local place to drop off used batteries, call 1-800-8-BATTERY. Many retailers – Radio Shack, Sears, Best Buys, etc. – accept batteries for recycling. Riser Bar Problems? Newer S32 and S47 systems are configured to fit riser bars without modification. We can convert an older dual beam to the current model for $25. |
